this is why @notcoin will go down as one of the best airdrops in crypto history.
they didn’t overpromise anything, in fact they promised probably nothing, and just built hype naturally.
over 11 million users claimed, and you barely saw anyone complain about their allocation.
that’s how you do it right.
I don't think airdrops are fundamentally good or bad.
However, I do think people have a point when they say that it's impossible to make everyone happy.
That even applies to me. To be honest, when I receive a certain number of tokens airdropped, I usually always go "cool but could have been more".
Even with the largest airdrop I've ever received, I had higher expectations. So I was not super excited.
I think it comes down to managing expectations.
For example, if Monad had remained completely silent about airdrops and simply said on TGE day:
Connect your X, we might have something for you.
Everyone (even the haters) would have reacted very differently.
Expectation management.
That also applies to long-term "community members" who feel entitled to tokens after they were active on testnet etc.
The problem is that projects often lure people in with big promises, only to disappoint them at airdrop claim
